In my work with managers and teams, I found that the lack of authenticity has a high impact on trust, and therefore disrupts the work atmosphere and collaboration the most.
When people are anxious to appear weak, insecure, incompetent, inadequate…etc. and try to cover it up, authenticity is lost. The cover up never works though, because teams will always notice that something is off. And since they do, why not show the true authentic side right away.
– open up
– show emotions
– share insecurities
– acknowledge mistakes
– admit not knowing the answer
– confess inadequate decision-making
– let go of unrealistic high expectations
Do not fake it till you make it, the true authentic you, is the better you.
